Head Coach & Business Development Manager

We caught up with Jack to learn more about his coaching journey, what inspires his work with children and why he believes sport can play such an important role in building confidence and life skills.

Q: Jack, can you tell us about your role at Rising Stars Activities?

A: I’m the Head Coach and Development Manager, which means I oversee the design and delivery of our programmes. My focus is making sure sessions are engaging, structured and enjoyable for children while helping them stay active and develop confidence through sport.

“Sport should always be inclusive, enjoyable and focused on development.”

Q: You’ve coached in several countries. How has that shaped your approach?

A: I’ve been lucky to coach in the UK, Ireland and the United States, working with children of all ages and abilities. Each environment taught me something different, but the biggest takeaway is that sport should always be inclusive, fun and focused on development rather than just competition.

“Every child develops differently, the key is creating an environment where they feel confident to try.”

Q: You played several sports growing up. Did that influence your coaching philosophy?

A: Definitely. Growing up I played golf, tennis, rugby, Gaelic football and football. Playing different sports helped me develop a wide range of skills and, just as importantly, build confidence and friendships. That’s why I encourage children to try new activities and discover what they enjoy.

“Trying different sports helps children discover their strengths and build confidence.”

Q: What do you hope children gain from sessions at Rising Stars?

A: Of course we want them to improve their skills, but more importantly we want them to develop confidence, teamwork and resilience. When children feel supported and enjoy being active, they’re much more likely to build a lifelong love of sport.

“When children enjoy being active, they develop a lifelong love of sport.”

Q: Outside of Rising Stars, you’re also involved in university sport. Can you tell us about that?

A: Alongside my role at Rising Stars, I coach the women’s football team at King’s College London. It’s a great experience because it allows me to work across both grassroots participation and competitive university sport, which brings a different perspective to my coaching.
